Anyone who follows my blog knows I’m not a fan of Apple, but when you get it right, you get it right. That’s exactly what Apple has done here. The next advancement in advertising has come, not from Google, but from Apple.
iBeacon uses low powered Bluetooth technology to deliver content to all iOS devices. Android can receive information, but not transmit. How is this useful? Now consumers will be able to receive coupons or product information that is relevant to where they are. No 3G data, GPS, or WiFi is needed. This allows businesses in a mall drive traffic to their stores and possibly purchase more.
The application for this could be used in many other areas as well. Lost kid in a store, getting information to miners in remote locations. The possibilities for this are endless. Let’s see how Apple handles this.
